There have been so many different articles, blogs and discussions on gratitude. We all know we should be grateful, yet sometimes we get in a “funk” – as I like to call it and just want to complain! That’s okay, we’re all human. Obviously we don’t want to complain everyday, but when you are feeling “less than grateful” don’t beat yourself up for feeling ungrateful we are human after all.
It’s moving on that’s the hard part. So…kick, stomp, pout and then try some of these ideas to move on!
- When you wake up each morning think of something you are grateful for and use that as your mantra for the day. Have you ever thanked God for your eyesight? Think of all the beauty in the world you wouldn’t even know existed! Give thanks for small things, big things and everything in between.
- Start a Gratitude Journal. The best part of this is that you can reflect back on everything you wrote about.
- Read a devotional each morning. I have been doing this for almost seven years now and I am living proof that it actually makes you think more positively and sets your frame of mind for the day.
- Take a favorite bible passage or quote about thankfulness and put it on the fridge, use it as a screen saver, just put it anywhere you will see it multiple times throughout the day. Ephesians 5:20 “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
I could provide a list that goes on endlessly of things like; heat in the winter, hot cup of coffee, best friends, etc….but I think you get the idea. The important thing is to always live a life of gratitude. Don’t worry about the person to your right or left, God placed you where he wanted you, just say thank you!
A favorite quote of mine I want to share with all of you:
“You don’t choose your family, they are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” ~ Desmond Sutu
Make today a great day!
