Selecting which major you want to pursue can be extremely stressful. I was fortunate enough to have a good understanding of what I wanted, but many of my friends had no clue and still aren’t sure. You want a job that you are going to love, make money from and not get bored of. So how do you pick a major which decides your career path which decides your future lifestyle? Talk about a pressured decision. Maybe this will help:
- In your free time what do you do? Besides scrolling your phone – what do you like to do? Maybe it’s play sports, or you have a knack for photography or you enjoy observing the status of the stock market. (Don’t be embarrassed about what you love either – this is about you not others opinions)
- What was your favorite subject in high school? (or class in college). If your favorite was History, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should be a history major. Maybe you enjoyed the way the lesson was taught, or enjoyed specific units of material…get detailed here, this can tell you a lot!
- Find out something you don’t know. There are plenty of personality tests available on line to clue you in further. Try this one.
- Be patient. If you are just entering college, Chances are, after your first year of classes, you’ll learn a lot about yourself and the answer will become clear. For those in their last couple years away, take a look at the classes you have taken. Begin asking around about others careers and see if anything sparks your interest. Seek counsel from a trusted advisor and ask them for a professional opinion.
